Inclusive, innovative, accessible.

I'm a forward-thinking product design leader and accessibility program manager.
‍
I design thoughtfully researched products that put people — especially disabled and marginalized users — at the center.

Working with industry leaders

My experience spans communications, Software as a Service, startups, financial tech, ecommerce, enterprise tools, small business, tech giants, and the US government.

Services

Beyond empathy, I am not afraid to highlight areas of risk or opportunity and work well in teams that reward experimentation, autonomy, and initiative.

Accessible and Equitable Design and Research

I run accessibility audits, usability studies, and assistive-technology testing grounded in real user experience — then translate findings into design and research practices your team can sustain.

Working together

How an engagement works.

A clear, collaborative process for bringing accessibility into how your team designs, builds, and ships: whether I'm advising a few hours a month or leading the program full time.
Discovery & Assessment
01

Curiosity

We start with a real look at your current accessibility maturity — testing methodology, team skill levels, existing violations, and how decisions get prioritized today.

  • Audit existing testing & QA process
  • Assess team accessibility fluency
  • Review prioritization against real AT use
Strategy & Roadmap
02

What to fix, and why it matters

I build a prioritization framework grounded in disability-studies research and my own experience as a screen reader user, not just automated audit scores — so your team fixes what actually blocks people.

  • Define severity & prioritization criteria
  • Set accessibility KPIs and goals
  • Align stakeholders across teams
Implementation & Testing
03

I work directly with design, engineering, and QA to embed accessibility into the workflow — reviewing designs, writing acceptance criteria, and testing with real assistive technology.

  • Design & code reviews
  • Acceptance criteria & tickets
  • Manual AT testing (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
Enablement & Handoff

Every engagement ends with documentation, training, and a team that can keep the work moving; through workshops, reference guides, and a system for tracking progress.

  • Team training & workshops
  • Documentation & reference guides
  • Ongoing metrics dashboard
About me

Passion for inclusive design.

I'm passionate about creating designs that prioritize people and their experiences. Over my career I've worked on projects ranging from government and fintech to advertising agencies and enterprise SaaS, mentoring and leading designers from all backgrounds along the way. I practice ethical, harm-reducing design, leaning on co-creation with community, constant study, and my own lived experience in the LGBTQIA+ and disability communities.

Feedback

“Soren is an exceptional designer—one of the best I've ever worked with. Their willingness to speak up has changed the course of projects. I would immediately recommend Soren for any company serious about taking customer experience to the next level.”

Alex White

Director of User Experience, CodeMettle

“Soren is the type of talent I would always love to have as a part of my team. I learned from them every time we talked and they have had a real impact on how I work and see the world, for which I will always be thankful.”

Stephen Gates

Former Head Design Evangelist, InVision

“When you take a step back to see where the site was before they showed up, to when they hit their stride, you can see their impact. Soren is always on the short list of people I want on my team, especially if I see gaps in accessibility and inclusion.”

Joe Cahill

Director of User Experience, Havas
